Richard James Hollis Roberts
Professional Footballer
Richard J. H. Roberts (Dickie Roberts) was born 30th 1878 - 1931
March 1878 in Redditch to parents William Henry and
Mary Roberts, who on the 1891 census, lived in Richard James Hollis Roberts
Prospect Road. He became a professional footballer,
a winger, in April 1899, when he joined West (Source:Crystal Palace Supporters
Bromwich Albion and played for them for just two Web Site)
years, before joining Newcastle United (1901 –
1904). He then played for Middlesborough (1904-
1905), Crystal Palace (1905-1908) and Worcester
City (1908-1909). He retired in 1909 due to injury.
Married in 1903 to Elizabeth (Lizzie) Crow and they
had 3 children. He died in 1931 in Birmingham.

with a ninth round stoppage of Prince Davis.
The men went toe-to-toe for the title at
Wolverhampton Civic Hall.
