Jacqui Smith

MP & first female British Home Secretary

Jaqui Smith was the Labour MP of Redditch from
1997 until 2010. She was the first female Home
Secretary (2007-2009) and third woman to hold one
of the great offices of State, after Margaret Thatcher
(Prime Minister) and Margaret Beckett (Foreign
Secretary). She left her Cabinet office on June 5th
2009 and returned to the back benches. Then she lost
her Redditch seat to Karen Lumley in 2010.
