Redditch Industries – Redditch, Friday, - There is a continued firm demand from
America for needles of the medium and higher qualities and Canadian and Australian orders
are but little if any below the average for this part of the season. Business in the Continental
and home markets would be quiet but for demand from the English and other Governments
for needles. Makers of springs and other small wares are very busy, and the supply of labour
is insufficient. The dispute among the needle-makers in one of the outlying districts is now
so near a settlement that no further serious trouble is anticipated. Makers of knitting pins
and of surgical and other large and fancy needles are busily employed. In the fishing tackle
industry there are signs of improvements, principally owing to orders from the home market
and neutral countries, but most of the fish-hook and fishing rod makers are only partially
employed. In the cycle branch there is a continuance of the activity which has been
noticeable for some months past. Most of the large firms are busily employed upon
Government orders for motor and ordinary cycles.
