               Headless Cross Soldier Killed – Corpl. T. Quinney, Australian Imperial Forces –
               Official news has been received that 788 Corpl. Tom Quinney, aged 29 years, son of Mr E.

               Quinney, Headless Cross, was killed in action on September 18 , while serving with the
               Australian Imperial Forces.  Quinney had been in the army over 4 years, joining in 1914, and
               coming with the first Australian force to the Dardanelles.  He also saw much fighting in
               France.  The deceased soldier went to Australia in 1914 to take up farming at which he was
               successful.  He was also a keen athlete, doing some remarkable walks, for which he gained
               the Australian championship for both long and short distances, and also won many medals
               and prizes.  Quinney was expected home on leave when news was received of his death.  He
               was engaged to the second daughter of Mr and Mrs Broomfield, 23 Old Square, Sidemoor,
               Bromsgrove.
               Remembered on St Luke’s war memorial, Headless Cross, Redditch.
